Parents As Teachers

Parents as Teachers (PAT) is an international, evidenced-based Home Visiting model. PAT promotes optimal early development, learning and health of children by supporting and engaging their parents and caregivers. Their vision is that all children will develop, learn, and grow to realize their full potential.
Parents as Teachers state and country offices are a valuable partner and a key entity closest to the affiliates and families in its state.
As the state office for PAT in Michigan, we provide leadership to the local affiliates by meeting the expectations of the PAT National Center’s (PATNC) identified capacity categories:
Capacity Categories
- Infrastructure
- Training and professional development
- Evaluation and continuous quality improvement
- Communication and collaboration
- Education and promotion
The state office supports local affiliates to achieve and maintain quality implementation through communities of practice, trainings and technical assistance. We work in collaboration with the PATNC to strengthen the State/Country Office-National Office (SCONO) partnership.
The 34 local affiliates in the PAT system, located throughout the state, include parent educators, supervisors, and program managers. PAT affiliates serve parents of young children from prenatal to age 5, depending on the individual program. Family participation in PAT home visiting is voluntary and free.
